Install the Quiet Camping App (PWA)
Install Quiet Camping on your phone's home screen for fast, app-like access. Works offline — browse your saved spots, unlocked sites, and shared sites without an internet connection.
What Is a Progressive Web App (PWA)?
Quiet Camping is a Progressive Web App (PWA) — a website that acts like a native phone app when installed.
- Install it on your home screen — tap the icon to open Quiet Camping instantly, just like any other app.
- No app store needed — install directly from your browser in seconds.
- Fast and lightweight — loads quickly even on slow connections because core files are cached on your device.
- Works offline — your saved sites, unlocked details, and shared spots are available even without internet (see the offline guide below).
- Always up to date — the app checks for updates automatically each time you open it.
Installing on Android (Chrome)
1. Open Chrome on your Android device.
2. Navigate to quiet-camping.com and sign in.
3. Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
4. Tap "Install app" or "Add to Home screen".
5. A prompt appears showing the Quiet Camping app icon. Tap Install.
6. The app installs and a shortcut appears on your home screen.
7. Tap the icon on your home screen to open Quiet Camping like a native app!
Installing on iPhone / iPad (Safari)
1. Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Navigate to quiet-camping.com and sign in.
3. Tap the Share button (□↑) at the bottom of the screen (or top-right on iPad).
4. Scroll down the Share sheet and tap "Add to Home Screen".
5. Name the app ("Quiet Camping" by default) and tap Add in the top-right corner.
6. The app appears on your home screen — tap it to open Quiet Camping instantly!
Note: If you don't see "Add to Home Screen", scroll all the way down the Share sheet and tap Edit Actions... to add it.
Online vs Offline — What Works Where
Once the PWA is installed, Quiet Camping works both online and offline. Here's what to expect:
✅ Available Online and Offline
- Browse community sites — the site list is cached after your first visit
- Your saved sites (My Sites) — all your personal library, notes, and photos are stored locally with a 1-month refresh
- Unlocked site details — sites you've unlocked remain available offline
- Sites shared with you — folders and shared spots from other members are cached locally
- View site detail pages — pages you've visited are cached by the app
- Your folders and organization — all folder structure is stored on your device
❌ Online Only
- Submit a new site — requires server-side processing
- Upload photos — uploads need a connection to the server
- Unlock new sites — requires credit verification on the server
- Map tiles — the interactive map needs a connection to load geographic tiles (panning works offline on cached areas)
- Edit or delete your saved sites — changes sync to the server
- Share folders or sites — share links are generated server-side
- Update your profile or settings — account changes require a connection
💡 Tip: Browse the sites you're interested in while online, unlock the ones you need, and the app saves everything you'll need for your next offline adventure.
